
As part of its Civic Action Programme, the 73 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Srinagar Sector, organised a three-day friendship volleyball tournament at JK Police Public School, Bemina. The event, which began on September 27, concluded on September 29 with the final match and prize distribution ceremony.
Ten school teams from the Srinagar area participated in the tournament, which aimed to foster friendship, discipline, and sportsmanship among youth. The final, played on Monday, saw Kashmir Harvad Dargha clash with Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Bemina. Kashmir Harvad Dargha clinched the title by securing a straight 3-0 victory.
The closing ceremony was graced by Shri Sudhir Kumar, DIG Range North CRPF, who was the chief guest on the occasion. He was joined by Shri K. Sajith Kumar, Commandant 73 Bn CRPF, officers, school principals, teachers, jawans, students from various schools, and members of the local community.
Speaking at the ceremony, DIG Sudhir Kumar highlighted the importance of sports in promoting camaraderie and building healthy lifestyles. He urged local youth to actively participate in games to develop teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. “Sports are not only about winning trophies but also about strengthening body and mind. They help channel energy positively and keep the youth away from negative influences,” he said.
Following the final match, trophies were presented to both the winner and runner-up teams. Kashmir Harvad Dargha received the winner’s trophy, while Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Bemina, was awarded the runner-up trophy. Medals, certificates, T-shirts, volleyball kits, cash prizes, and other items were also distributed among players, referees, and supporting staff.
The event was widely appreciated by students, teachers, and locals who attended in large numbers. Many said such tournaments help foster goodwill between security forces and the community while encouraging youth to channel their energy into constructive pursuits.
Commandant K. Sajith Kumar extended a vote of thanks to the participants, organisers, and guests, expressing hope that the initiative would leave a lasting impact on young players.
