‘Focus on NEP implementation, PM SHRI schools
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Monday chaired a high-level meeting with Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Sanjay Kumar to review the progress of ongoing education reforms in Jammu and Kashmir and discuss measures to further strengthen the school education system across the Union Territory.
The meeting focused on accelerating key initiatives, bridging infrastructural gaps, improving learning outcomes, and mainstreaming out-of-school children. Discussions also centred on aligning J&K’s education system with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes holistic, inclusive, and skill-oriented learning.
Dulloo stressed the importance of ensuring NEP-driven reforms reach classrooms at every level — from primary to higher education — with a focus on early adoption of digital tools, vocational training, and foundational learning in the mother tongue.
The progress of PM SHRI Schools in the UT also came under review. Plans were discussed to expedite the upgradation of selected schools with modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, and innovative teaching practices, transforming them into model institutions showcasing best pedagogical practices.
Union Secretary Sanjay Kumar lauded the UT’s efforts and assured full support from the Centre for the implementation of NEP and PM SHRI initiatives. He highlighted the importance of teacher capacity building, technology integration, and a robust monitoring system to ensure measurable outcomes.
The Chief Secretary said these initiatives will not only enhance the quality of education but also equip students with the skills required to compete in a rapidly evolving global environment.
