Srinagar, June 16: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Monday reviewed preparations for the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, scheduled to be observed across Jammu and Kashmir on June 21 under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

Chairing a high-level meeting, the Chief Secretary assessed arrangements being made by divisional and district administrations, including venue identification, logistics, security, and participant mobilization. He stressed the need for meticulous planning to ensure the smooth conduct of yoga events across the Union Territory.
Dulloo directed authorities to organize yoga sessions at prominent tourist destinations to showcase Jammu and Kashmir’s natural beauty while promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles. He emphasized combining the message of yoga with the region’s tourism potential to encourage wider public participation.
Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, M. Raju informed the meeting that extensive awareness and outreach activities have been conducted in the run-up to the event. These include yoga sessions, programmes at iconic locations, youth-centric initiatives, community outreach campaigns, Samyoga activities integrating yoga with other healthcare systems, and Harit Yoga programmes promoting environmental consciousness.
Officials informed the meeting that 1,952 yoga-related events have already been organized across the Union Territory, with participation exceeding 1.31 lakh people.
The Directorate of Ayush has been designated as the nodal agency for IDY-2026 celebrations and is coordinating with various departments to ensure successful implementation of programmes at the Union Territory, district, and grassroots levels.
The meeting was also informed that trained instructors from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga will facilitate mass yoga demonstrations during the countdown and main events.
A mega UT-level programme is scheduled to be held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, where around 4,000 to 5,000 participants are expected to take part in a mass yoga demonstration. Similar events will be organised at district headquarters, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, tourist destinations, Anganwadi centres, and village-level locations.
The Chief Secretary called for close inter-departmental coordination and a whole-of-government approach to make the celebrations a mass movement promoting health, wellness, and healthy living across Jammu and Kashmir.
