The Department of Kashmiri, School of Languages, Central University of Kashmir (CUK), in collaboration with the Sahitya Akademi, organised a seminar on the life and works of renowned Kashmiri poet Samad Mir at the varsity’s Tulmulla campus.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Prof. Sandhya Tiwari described Mir’s poetry as “a blend of aesthetic grace and emotional depth” and announced that CUK would soon propose a Centre for Translation Studies to promote translations of Kashmiri literature.
Prof. Shahid Rasool highlighted the need to digitize the literary heritage of Kashmir and called for the publication of a monograph on Samad Mir, along with digital archives of Kashmiri poets.
In his keynote address, poet Satish Vimal described Samad Mir’s writings as “an ocean of human experience where mysticism meets modern consciousness,” while Prof. Ravinder Nath lauded Mir’s works as a reflection of “universal values of peace, love, and humanism.”
Prof. Shad Ramzan called Samad Mir “a bridge between Kashmir’s oral and written traditions,” embodying the Sufi spirit of humility, compassion, and self-realization.
