
Amid the rise in cyber fraud cases across the Union Territory, the Crime Branch Kashmir—now the Economic Offences Wing (EOW)—organized a cyber awareness programme in Srinagar on Thursday.
The initiative aimed to bolster the capabilities of law enforcement officials in combating cybercrimes and safeguarding citizens against digital threats, officials said.
Organized under the supervision of Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch J&K, Sunil Gupta the programme brought together investigative officers from the Crime Branch and the Cybercrime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE).
The event was moderated by SSP EOW Abdul Waheed Shah.
Delivering a key address during the session, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of J&K Bank, Muneer Hassan Konga Wani, provided expert insights into the evolving cyber threat landscape.
He emphasized the need for advanced investigative tools and techniques to respond effectively to complex online frauds.
The programme was designed build investigative officers’ knowledge on various forms of cyber frauds, including phishing, online banking scams, and social media exploitation.
It was also aimed at share actionable counter measures to safeguard citizens and prevent victimization.
The other objectives included promote the adoption of robust online security practices, including maintaining cyber hygiene and digital resilience; and develop investigative competencies to effectively handle, analyze, and resolve cybercrime cases.
“This initiative reflects commitment of Crime Branch J&K in fostering a secure digital ecosystem and enhancing institutional preparedness against the growing menace of cyber frauds,” the officials said.
