Tragedy struck the family of Hyderabad-based Kashmiri journalist Khurshid Wani on Tuesday when his eldest daughter was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Hyderabad in Telangana state.
Family sources said the accident took place in the Hayat Nagar area of Hyderabad when an unknown vehicle hit a young girl before speeding away from the spot.
The passersby rushed her to a nearby hospital, where despite best medical efforts she succumbed to injuries.
“She was heading to college when the accident took place. The driver did not stop and fled away.
Police in Hyderabad have registered a case and launched investigations to trace the vehicle involved in the incident.
A police official said CCTV footage from the locality is being reviewed to identify the driver responsible for the fatal accident.
The mortal remains of the young girl will be flown to Srinagar on Wednesday morning and then taken to her ancestral village in Devar, Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, where she would be laid to rest.
Khurshid Wani, who hails from Tral, has been living in Hyderabad for the past six years, where he works with a private television news channel.
The death of the journalist’s daughter has left the journalist fraternity in Kashmir in deep shock.

He expressed sympathies and solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
