
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, today inaugurated the first-ever Sumbal Sports Festival at Government Degree College Sumbal, marking a new milestone in promoting sports, fitness, and youth engagement in the district.
The festival, first of its kind, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth clubs, and local sports enthusiasts.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of sports as a medium of discipline, teamwork, and physical well-being. She highlighted that such initiatives foster positive energy among youth and help them channel their potential in the right direction.
She further stressed the need to make sports an integral part of daily life and encouraged youth to pursue both academics and athletics with equal passion.
On the occasion, the DC appreciated Principal, GDC Sumbal, PROF. (DR.) Shabeena Iqbal Shawl, for organizing such an inspiring event that not only promotes a sporting culture but also strengthens community participation.
She reiterated the administration’s commitment to supporting similar initiatives and improving sports infrastructure across Bandipora to nurture local talent.
The festival aims to provide a vibrant platform for young athletes from across the subdivision to showcase their talent in multiple disciplines including volleyball, cricket, badminton, and athletics. The three-day sports extravaganza is being held from October 28 to 30, featuring a wide range of events including athletics, martial arts, cultural performances, and other inter-college competitions.
Among others, the event was attended by the Principal GDC Sumbal, faculty members, officers from the Department of Youth Services and Sports, police officials, and a large number of students and sportspersons.
