The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harvinder Singh inaugurated the Inter- Zonal District Level Chess and Kabaddi Tournament here today. The DC graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The tournament is being organised by the District Administration Doda in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports department (DYSSD).
As part of the event, the participants took a solemn pledge  to promote Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Get rid of drugs before they get rid of you), reinforcing the commitment to a drug-free and healthy lifestyle.
The opening ceremony saw the participation of Zonal Physical Education Officers, field staff, and more than 200 young athletes representing different educational zones of the district. The event was marked by enthusiasm and discipline, reflecting the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
The tournament is set to host competitions in Kabaddi and Chess for U 14 and U17 boys and girls, providing them a platform to showcase their sports skills and interact with each other.
The DC lauded the Youth Services and Sports Department for nurturing sports culture and talent at the grassroots level. He emphasized the vital role of sports in personality development, confidence building, and leadership. Encouraging the young participants, he urged them to uphold the spirit of fair play and strive for excellence both on and off the field.
