DC Srinagar Reviews GMC Infrastructure Upgrades

Srinagar, Jan 29: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, along with Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, Prof. Iffat Hassan Shah, conducted a comprehensive review of infrastructure upgradation and developmental requirements of GMC and its associated hospitals.

The review focused on enhancing healthcare infrastructure, patient care, medical education, and overall hospital facilities across SMHS Hospital, Super Specialty Hospital-Shireen Bagh, LD Hospital, Bone & Joint Hospital, Chest Disease Hospital, Psychiatry Hospital, and Children’s Hospital, Bemina.

Administrator GMC Srinagar, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Additional DC Aadil Fareed, Joint Commissioner SMC Nuzhat Khurshid, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineers from R&B, and senior officials from various departments participated in the spot review.

During the visit, the DC and Principal assessed ongoing projects, proposed works, and measures to ensure timely completion through multi-departmental coordination. Key projects inspected included the Multi Facility Centre at GMC Srinagar and the Additional Surgery Block at SMHS Hospital.

The DC emphasized cohesive coordination among all line departments to provide practical solutions, improve patient amenities, and strengthen healthcare infrastructure. He assured full support from the District Administration and directed follow-up spot visits next week to monitor progress.

Principal Prof. Iffat Shah highlighted priority areas requiring attention, including traffic management, removal of encroachments, waterlogging mitigation, road macadamization, construction of an Attendant Sarai, additional land for expansion, and other new projects. She stressed the need to accommodate growing patient loads and provide advanced treatment facilities.

The DC assured time-bound support for these initiatives and announced a follow-up meeting next month to review implementation progress, reinforcing the commitment to enhanced healthcare delivery across GMC and its associated hospitals.
