
Srinagar, Mar 11: The District Level Committee of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) on Wednesday reviewed enforcement measures to combat drug trafficking and abuse in Srinagar during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo at the DC Office Complex. Senior Superintendent of Police Sundeep Chakravarthy was also present.
The committee reviewed ongoing anti-narcotics operations and discussed strategies to strengthen action against drug peddlers and trafficking networks. Emphasis was laid on better inter-departmental coordination, strengthening intelligence networks and identifying drug hotspots across the district. Officials also discussed intensifying confiscation of vehicles and disqualification of driving licences under the NDPS Act.
The meeting stressed the need to expand awareness campaigns, particularly in schools, colleges and coaching centres, to educate youth about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Capacity building of officials involved in anti-drug operations was also highlighted.
Deputy Commissioner Labroo called for disrupting the logistical support networks used by drug peddlers and directed the Regional Transport Officer to take strict action against transporters found involved in drug trafficking. He reiterated that the administration will continue focused enforcement, awareness initiatives and rehabilitation measures to curb the drug menace.
Officials informed the meeting that a massive crackdown has been launched against drug peddlers in coordination with police and other departments. As part of the action, driving licences of 73 persons involved in narcotics cases have been disqualified, while 63 vehicles have been blacklisted by the Regional Transport Office under the NDPS Act.
SSP Srinagar said strict action against drug hotspots will continue and those involved in the narcotics trade will face criminal prosecution as per law.
The meeting was attended by RTO Kashmir Qazi Irfan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, Joint Commissioner SMC Nuzhat Khurshid, SP Headquarters Umar Shah and officers from the Excise Department, Drug Control Organisation and other concerned departments.
