’39 votes turn Drugmulla contest against PC’
The National Conference-backed independent candidate advocate Aamina Majeed on Thursday won the Drugmulla DDC seat by a margin of 39 votes.
According to officials, Aamina secured a total of 3259 votes against her nearest rival candidate of Peoples Conference Shabnam Rehman who got 3220 votes – leaving a difference of mere 39 votes between the two.
On the other hand, the J&K Apni Party candidate Hameeda Begum secured 1474, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Shakeela Akhter got 877, Shabroz Hassan from INC 746, Rifat Jan Independent 612, Rafiqa Bano Independent 123, Hafeeza Begum Independent 62, Gulshan Begum Independent 34 and Saima Begum Independent 28.
Out of 10675 votes polled, a total of 240 were declared as invalid.
Independent candidate Naza Begum was declared as winner in DDC re-polls for Hajin (A) constituency in Bandipora district.
Official figures show that Naza Begum, believed to have received support from Altaf Bukhari led Apni Party, secured 2606 votes.
Naza was followed by Peoples Conference candidate Ateeqa Bano who got 2283 votes. On the other hand Kulsooma Begum of Bharatiya Janata Party has secured 387 votes and Independent candidate Zahida Begum 315.
A total of 323 votes were declared as invalid, the official figures revealed.
