Dentistry inside out J&K

April 19, 2024 | Dr Suhail Khan

Oral health care is at a brisk because of it’s services although providing competitive cost compared to Asia and western countries. Public health care is almost free for every resident especially for underprivileged residents but the unemployed staff, poor quality services, unmotivated & old school

Laymen & non medical patients with strange myths making a deliberate huge gathering and people of j& k are known for attending gathering without caring for degrees/registration.
Dentist primary goal is to maintain patient optimal oral health care including natural dentition without looking for other options. During my early internship days i heard unacceptable myths of dentistry among patients & clinicians like “Me hax gyi yim scalling karni saet kharab dand”
Root canal dand che piwan pat niber karun” “Toi hax chov gharmi gmich” “Extraction saet che eye sight kamzor gacxan” 😁 These discussions happened when govt doesn’t prioritise health care awareness & non professionals lead the pack. Imagine a dental experience where appointments are not governed by rigid time frames but rather by focus on patients comfort & well being. By consciously detaching ourselves from constraints of the clock we can create an environment where stress melts away & tranquility takes center stage. Going to a dentist is not costly but negligence is. Procrastinating
dental treatment due to self medication, fear & phobia, myths result in huge expenditure of money & treatment. Cheap treatment are always costly in long run. Recent studies & researchs has revealed
that oral bacterias are linked to cardiac arrest, alzheimer’s disease etc. similarly in pregnancy, diabetes, gastric ,thyroid & hypertensive patients oral symptoms are first to spot from. In situations like these oral health care providers must consider what they would want if it was their own tooth, this introspection may help practitioners what is in the best interest of patient & provide transparency.
