Desist from Rumour Mongering

People should not heed to the noise of unreal scarcity of the LPG and Petrol and thus should not be disturbed by the activities of unscrupulous businessmen but should help the government to tide over the shortage of the crude oil and LPG in the country and in this lies the good of the country and its population

It is very unfortunate and distressing that the rumour of scarcity and shortage of Petrol in the country is spreading like wildfire but amid the sufficient stock of crude oil and LPG in the country. Modi government has made it absolutely clear that there is abundant rather adequate stock of petrol and gas across the country, but still selfish people are some businessmen and traders are creating artificial scarcity which is detrimental to the interests of the country. As responsible citizens of the world’s largest democracy, we are duty bound to be conscious of our duties and responsibilities and thus we are some of our selfish companies should not create artificial scarcity and thus create panic and during panic consumers are busy in panic buying which led to some shortage of crude oil and LPG in the country.
People should not heed to the noise of unreal scarcity of the LPG and Petrol and thus should not be disturbed by the activities of unscrupulous businessmen but should help the government to tide over the shortage of the crude oil and LPG in the country and in this lies the good of the country and its population. As of March 2026, rumours of a petrol shortage in India, driven by West Asia tensions, are false and have caused artificial supply issues through panic buying, notably in cities like Allahabad, Mumbai, and Ahmadabad.
Government authorities and oil companies confirm sufficient stocks and have called for an end to hoarding. Government has done well to have warned the people not to create rumours and create artificial scarcity of petrol and LPG which results in panic among the consumers resulting in panic buying and hoarding of the LPG and petrol ,thus putting the large number of consumers to inconvenience .Government has rightly made it crystal clear that rumour mongers will be dealt with iron hand as they are working against the nation’s interests.
There are reports that there are long queues of people at petrol pumps which is nothing more than panic buying but certainly it results in dissatisfaction among the consumers and results in problems to the common people. Rumours of a fuel shortage in India are doing rounds but these are false and have caused panic buying ,leading to artificial shortage at petrol pumps. Government officials and oil companies [BPCI, OCL] have confirmed that fuel supply is normal, with sufficient stocks available, and have urged citizens to avoid panic.
Key Points on the Fuel Rumours----1—No Shortage---The government has reassured that there is no scarcity of petrol, diesel ,or LPG across the country as there are sufficient stocks of these essential commodities.2---Cause of Panic---The frenzy started due to rumours on social media and misinformation surrounding rising geopolitical tensions in WEST Asia [Isreal-Iran conflict],and fabricated news about a potential lockdown.3---Panic Buying Scenes---Long queues were seen at petrol pumps in cities like Mumbai ,Ahmedabad, and parts of Uttar Pradesh as people rushed to stock up ,inadvertently creating temporary ,localized shortages. 4---Official Warnings---Authorities have warned against hoarding fuel, as storing it in plastic containers and homes is highly unsafe and can lead to dangerous fire hazards. 5---Government Action---The government and oil marketing companies are ensuring steady supply and have advised the public to trust only official, verified information. 6---Source of Panic ---Misinformation spreading on social media ,exacerbated by tensions in West Asia and potential shipping disruption through the Strait of Hormuz ,triggered fear-driven panic buying.7---Impact---The panic buying has created artificial shortages ,leading to long queues and ,in some cases .’’no stock ‘’boards at petrol pumps 8---Government Advisory----People are advised against hoarding and oil companies are asked not to create artificial scarcity as there are adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG available in the country.9----Geopolitical Context---The rumours are loosely tied to concerns about shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz due to West Asia tensions ,but India has maintained secure supplies.
Advice to Consumers---a---Do not engage in panic buying. b ----Continue with normal refuelling habits. C---Ignore viral social media messages claiming a ‘’shutdown ‘or ‘’shortage’’. Despite the centre assuring that fuel supply across the country remains stable and retail fuel outlets are operating normally amid the ongoing developments in West Asia, petrol pumps across the country, the city of Prayaj Raj witnessed panic buying as rumours of fuel shortage spread. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas,’’ All retail outlets are operating normally across the country. There are adequate stocks of petrol and diesel available at all petrol pumps. ’’Fuel dealers ,however claimed that bikers are increas9ingly opting to fill their tanks ,causing a sharp spike in demand and faster stock depletion .Petrol pump owners claimed that panic buying has increased customer volume. The government assures fuel supply amid Middle East Crises but what is behind petrol pump rush and Iran war panic? Amid panic buying at petrol pumps. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday dismissed rumours of a nationwide lockdown. This comes amid reports of long queues at petrol pumps in panic and LPG cylinder shortages triggered by the Middle East conflict and Strait of Hormuz closure. The minister clearly stated that there is no such proposal to enforce shutdown of petrol pumps nationwide. Minister said that ‘’These rumours are completely false. Let me be clear-the Government of India is not considering any lockdown in such time we must stay calm and united.’’ After long queues were seen at petrol pumps across the nation, rumours spread like a wildfire that lockdown is going to be imposed. There has also been a surge in search for word ‘’LOCKDOWN’’ on google in the past couple of days, especially after PM Narendra Modi hinted that they must remain ready for any situation amid the Middle East crisis. People started making a beeline for petrol pumps across the country, leading to closure of fuel stations at some places, especially in Punjab. On the other hand, LPG Cylinder supplies have also been affected after the Strait of Hormuz, a key energy route, was shut down due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Hardeep Singh Puri has assured the citizens of the country that government is doing everything possible to keep fuel and energy supplies running without interruption.’’ Under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership all necessary steps are being taken to ensure fuel, energy and other critical supplies remain available to our citizens. We, are fully prepared’’ he added. Puri stated that India has successfully handled global crises in the past and is well prepared to handle this situation too.’’
To sum up, we can say that the public should not give heed to false rumours regarding shortage of fuel and LPG across the country and should not resort to panic buying as there are adequate stocks of the crude oil and LPG and so there is no need to stock fuel and LPG and the consumers should not be panicky and instead cooperate with the government as the responsible citizens of the democracy and in this lies their own good and the good of the country in difficult times.
