DG Assam Rifles pays tribute on Infantry Day

October 28, 2025 | BK News Service

Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles, joined senior military leaders and veterans in commemorating Infantry Day at the National War Memorial, New Delhi. Marking the 79th Infantry Day, the solemn ceremony paid homage to the indomitable courage and sacrifices of India’s infantry soldiers who have defended the nation with unmatched valour.

Lt Gen Lakhera laid a wreath at the War Memorial, honouring the brave hearts who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The event was attended by serving and retired officers of the Indian Army, representatives from the tri-services, and families of martyrs, reflecting the deep respect and gratitude of the nation toward its infantrymen.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director General highlighted the unmatched contribution of the Infantry — the backbone of the Indian Army — in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He praised the relentless spirit of the soldiers who continue to operate in some of the most challenging terrains and conditions, embodying the ideals of courage, commitment, and selfless service.
Infantry Day is observed every year on October 27 to commemorate the landing of the first Indian Army troops at Srinagar in 1947, a decisive action that ensured Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India. The day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the infantry and their enduring role in maintaining national security.
The wreath-laying ceremony by Lt Gen Lakhera reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ deep bond with the Army and its continued commitment to the ethos of “Friends of the Hill People,” standing ever ready to uphold the sovereignty and unity of the nation.
