DGAR Polo Tournament 2025 begins in Imphal

Imphal, Dec 6: The 2nd DGAR Men & Women #PoloTournament2025 kicked off at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung Polo Ground, the oldest polo ground in the world, marking a grand revival of major polo tournaments in Manipur after a four-year hiatus due to COVID-19 and recent unrest. Organized by AssamRifles under its Civic Action Programme in collaboration with AMPA, the tournament features 38 teams, including three from Assam Rifles and the Assam Rifles Women’s Polo Team, competing until 20 December 2025.

The opening ceremony, attended by senior dignitaries including Maj Gen Ravroop Singh, IGAR (South), drew nearly 2,000 spectators. Highlights included spirited performances by the Assam Rifles Pipe Band and enthusiastic participation from local youth, showcasing the vibrant cultural and sporting heritage of the region.
The tournament not only promotes top-class polo competition but also reinforces Assam Rifles’ commitment to nurturing talent, preserving Manipur’s polo legacy, and strengthening bonds with the local community. Players and spectators alike look forward to a week of thrilling matches, camaraderie, and celebration of Manipur’s rich sporting traditions.
