
Srinagar, June 24: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Wednesday appealed to all stakeholders and mourners to cooperate with the administration in ensuring the smooth and peaceful conduct of Muharram processions across the Valley.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 8th Muharram procession in Srinagar, Garg said the administration had made comprehensive arrangements to facilitate mourners and ensure the peaceful observance of religious events.
He said helping teams, including Quick Response Teams (QRTs), had been deployed along the procession routes to provide assistance and respond promptly to any requirement during the observances.
The Divisional Commissioner said the 8th Muharram procession was conducted smoothly and peacefully, attributing it to coordinated efforts by various departments, security agencies, volunteers and the cooperation extended by mourners.
Garg urged the public to continue cooperating with the administration and follow advisories issued from time to time to ensure that the remaining Muharram events are conducted without inconvenience.
Referring to the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, he said all necessary arrangements had been put in place and described the annual pilgrimage as a routine event for which extensive planning had already been undertaken.
He said public cooperation remained important for the successful conduct of both Muharram observances and the annual pilgrimage.
The Divisional Commissioner further said that the administration was acting in accordance with directions issued by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding facilitation of mourners and ensuring peaceful religious observances across Kashmir.
