Srinagar, Jan 12: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar organized an awareness program at the Public Library, Bagh-e-Mehtab, Srinagar under the nationwide campaign “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat”, aimed at strengthening community awareness and preventive action against child marriage.

During the program, Adv. Sabiya Kausar, Pro-Bono Lawyer, DLSA Srinagar, addressed the participants on various social risk factors affecting youth and families, while also emphasizing the importance of road safety, traffic discipline and legal protections available to citizens under existing laws. The session highlighted responsible civic conduct and the role of legal awareness in preventing social evils.
Speakers sensitized the participants about the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, underscoring the legal safeguards available for children in need of care and protection. They elaborated on the legal framework, consequences and preventive strategies related to child marriage, in line with the objectives of the “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat” campaign.
The programme witnessed active participation from youth and members of the public and concluded with an interactive session, reiterating the collective responsibility of society in ensuring child protection, road safety and access to justice.
