
Police on Thursday arrested a DySP for his allegedly involvement in a case pertaining to corruption and destruction of evidence.
Sources said the DySP of 17th IRP, Adil Mushtaq, was arrested in case (FIR no. 149/2023 u/s7, 7A of prevention of corruption Act and section 167,193,201,210,218,221 of IPC) in Nowgam police station.
DySP Sheikh Adil Mushtaq, a 2015 Kashmir Police Service officer, was arrested today during investigation of a case which was registered in police station Nowgam Srinagar.
The officer's house at Sanat Nagar in uptown Srinagar was thoroughly searched by a police team on Tuesday.
Police said DySP Adil was arrested under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The sections included 167 ( public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury), 193 (giving false evidence), 201 (destruction of evidence), 210 (fraudulently obtaining decree for sum not due) ,218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture), 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture) and 221 (if a public servant, who is responsible for apprehending someone charged with an offense, intentionally fails to do so or aids their escape).
“In view of larger ramifications in this case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Gaurav Sikarwar IPS (SP South) and comprising SDPO Sadar, SHO Panthachowk, SHO cyber PS, Inspector GM Rather constituted for investigation of this case,” a police official said.
He said six days police remand has been obtained from a competent court for further investigation in the case.
In early March, DySP Adil, who was the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nowgam, was attached to the office of Special DG Crime amid allegations of professional misconduct.
In April, Adil was posted as DSP Indian Reserve Police (IRP)-17 battalion.
