Eastern Air Commander reviews Assam Rifles readiness

Shillong, Aug 18: Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, AVSM, VM, AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command, visited Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles in Shillong on August 17, where he reviewed the force's operational readiness, deployment and activities across the northeastern region.

During the visit, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles, briefed the Air Marshal on the force's operational preparedness and deployment across the region. The briefing also covered the prevailing security environment and the various activities being undertaken by Assam Rifles to support peace and stability.
The interaction provided an overview of the security challenges confronting the Northeast, including those arising from the region's difficult terrain and complex operational environment. The briefing highlighted the importance of sustained vigilance, effective deployment and close coordination among security agencies.
The visit also underscored the significance of cooperation between the Assam Rifles and the Indian Air Force in responding to security requirements across the region. Given the challenging geography of the Northeast, operational coordination between ground forces and air assets remains important for effective response and support.
The interaction between the two senior commanders focused on strengthening existing mechanisms of coordination and enhancing mutual understanding of operational requirements. Such cooperation is particularly relevant in remote and difficult-to-access areas where terrain can pose significant challenges to movement, logistics and security operations.
The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both forces to maintaining high levels of operational preparedness and ensuring effective coordination in the interest of regional security.
It also highlighted the continuing role of Assam Rifles in maintaining peace, security and stability across the Northeast while operating in close coordination with other elements of the country's security architecture.
The visit concluded with an emphasis on operational synergy, mutual cooperation and coordinated preparedness, reinforcing the partnership between the Assam Rifles and Eastern Air Command in meeting emerging security challenges in the region.
