Itanagar, Jan 12: Under Operation Sadbhavana, the Spearhead Division of Spear Corps successfully concluded Phase 1 of the Skill Development Eco-Tourism Exposure Tour to Darjeeling for students and faculty of Northeast Frontier Technical University (NEFTU) from Aalo, Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative was aimed at broadening perspectives, enhancing practical knowledge and building skills related to sustainable livelihoods through eco-tourism.

The exposure tour provided participants with first-hand insights into successful models of community-driven tourism and sustainable development. During the visit, the NEFTU students and faculty interacted extensively with District Tourism officials, tea estate stakeholders and homestay owners, gaining an in-depth understanding of how eco-tourism can generate employment while preserving natural and cultural heritage.
Discussions and field interactions highlighted key aspects such as responsible hospitality, community participation, and conservation-first tourism practices. Participants observed how local communities in Darjeeling have integrated traditional knowledge, environmental stewardship and entrepreneurship to create sustainable income opportunities without compromising ecological balance.
The tour also emphasised the importance of skill development, planning and innovation in promoting eco-tourism as a viable avenue for economic growth in the North Eastern region. Students were encouraged to adapt and replicate these best practices in their home districts, contributing to self-reliance, youth employment and inclusive development.
Through Operation Sadbhavana, Spear Corps continues to strengthen people-centric initiatives that bridge education, skill development and community empowerment. The successful completion of Phase 1 of the exposure tour reflects the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to nurturing youth potential and fostering sustainable development across Arunachal Pradesh and the wider North East.
