Continuing its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, the Assam Rifles organized a Tree Plantation Drive under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Longnok in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district.
The initiative, conducted on 26 August 2025, saw active participation from Assam Rifles personnel, school staff, and students, who came together to plant a variety of saplings within the school campus. The campaign aimed not only to green the environment but also to honour the role of mothers, symbolizing each tree as a tribute to their nurturing spirit.
Over the course of the day, students and troops planted dozens of saplings, including fruit-bearing, flowering, and indigenous tree species suited to the region's climate. The drive served as a powerful reminder of individual responsibility toward environmental conservation.
Addressing the gathering, an Assam Rifles officer spoke about the deeper message behind the campaign: “Each tree planted in the name of one's mother is not just an act of love, but also a pledge to protect and nurture the environment for future generations.”
Teachers at JNV Longnok appreciated the gesture and stressed how such events play a vital role in sensitizing young minds about the need for ecological balance. Students pledged to take care of the planted saplings and become “green ambassadors” in their community.
This drive is part of a broader nationwide effort under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, a movement that has gained traction for combining emotional resonance with ecological action. Assam Rifles, often referred to as the ‘Sentinels of the Northeast’, continue to extend their role beyond security duties by actively contributing to social and environmental causes.
Through such initiatives, Assam Rifles reaffirms its commitment not just to the protection of borders, but also to the preservation of the country’s natural heritage, fostering strong bonds with local communities in the process.
