January 09, 2026 | BK News Service

Police have arrested several persons, including a dismissed former IRS officer, in connection with an assault on an elderly Kashmiri Pandit couple in the Rajbagh area of Srinagar, officials said on Thursday. They said the incident came to light after police received information about an attack at a residential house in the locality. Preliminary investigation revealed that Vivek Batra, a dismissed former Indian Revenue Service officer, along with six associates, allegedly entered the house of Ashok Toshkhanai and his wife Kusum and assaulted members of the family. The accused reportedly arrived in two vehicles and also attempted to set the house on fire, officials said. During the incident, several women sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable, police said. Police said they acted promptly and arrested the accused persons involved in the incident. A case has been registered under relevant sections of law and further investigation is underway. Officials said strict legal action will be taken against those found involved. Police also said the main accused, Vivek Batra, had been dismissed from service earlier and has been named in multiple cases outside the Union Territory. These include cases related to cheating, corruption and possession of disproportionate assets.
