Ex-Patwari convicted in 2007 bribery case

Srinagar, April 13: A former Patwari has been convicted in a bribery case by the Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar, with the court awarding one year of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.

The judgment was pronounced by Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, Tasleem Arif, in connection with FIR No. 20/2007 registered at Police Station Vigilance Organization Kashmir (now Anti-Corruption Bureau).
The case pertains to Ghulam Qadir Bhat, then Patwari of Halqa Khushipora Zainkot, resident of Narparistan Fateh Kadal, Srinagar.
The conviction follows a long-pending case dating back to 2007, underscoring continued judicial scrutiny of corruption cases involving public officials.
According to the prosecution, the accused had demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹3,000 for implementing a mutation in favor of the complainant.
The case was registered under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act along with Section 161 RPC.
Investigating authorities said the charges were established through oral and documentary evidence during the trial.
The charge sheet in the case was filed in 2008 before the Anti-Corruption Court for judicial determination.
The court sentenced the accused under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act to one year of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000.
The case on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Srinagar was argued by Senior Prosecuting Officer Wajahat Jameel.
