Srinagar, Feb 10: A major fire broke out in the densely populated Habbakadal area of downtown Srinagar on Tuesday evening, causing significant damage to several residential houses. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the revered Nyama Sahib shrine, sending residents into a state of alarm.

According to officials, the blaze erupted late in the evening. Fire and Emergency Services personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. "Two to three residential structures have been caught in the fire. Our teams are working on the ground to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjoining buildings in this congested locality," stated an official on duty.
The cause of the fire is presently unknown and remains under investigation. As per the latest reports, there have been no immediate reports of any injuries or loss of life. The firefighting operation was still ongoing at the time this report was filed, with crews battling the blaze diligently.
The narrow lanes and closely-built houses in the historic Habbakadal area posed a challenge for the firefighters. Local residents also rallied to assist the emergency teams in their efforts.
