
Shopian, July 18: The Food Safety Department Shopian today conducted a comprehensive inspection drive in the main market, Shopian to ensure the availability of safe and quality food products for consumers.
During the inspection, the enforcement team lifted two food samples for detailed laboratory analysis to ascertain their quality and conformity with the prescribed standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
As part of the drive, the team also carried out an extensive awareness programme among Food Business Operators (FBOs), emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation in food establishments. The operators were sensitized about safe food handling practices, cleanliness of food preparation and storage areas, use of wholesome raw materials and adherence to personal hygiene by food handlers.
The Food Safety Department advised all FBOs to strictly comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and urged them to adopt best hygiene practices to safeguard public health and ensure the supply of safe and wholesome food to consumers.
The department reiterated that such inspection and awareness drives will continue across the district to strengthen food safety standards and promote responsible food business practices.
