Imphal, Sep 4: Maintaining sustained operational momentum against militant and criminal networks, joint teams of Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps and Manipur Police conducted intelligence-based operations at multiple locations across Manipur, leading to the recovery of six firearms and the apprehension of three active UNLF (K) cadres allegedly involved in an extortion network.

The operations were carried out as part of intensified efforts to curb the circulation of illicit weapons and disrupt extortion activities posing a threat to civilians and businesses in the state.
During a search operation in Imphal East, the joint team recovered six firearms. The recovery is significant as security agencies continue efforts to prevent illegal weapons from reaching underground groups and being used to fuel violence and intimidation.
In follow-up operations at Keishampat and Charangpat, security personnel apprehended three active cadres of the United National Liberation Front (Kangleipak), or UNLF (K), who were allegedly involved in an extortion network.
The coordinated action reflected the role of intelligence-led operations in identifying and disrupting networks operating across different areas. Security agencies have increasingly focused on combining ground-level intelligence with coordinated action to target armed groups and their support networks.
The operations also underline the continuing security challenges in Manipur, where illegal arms, extortion and militant activities remain areas of concern for law-enforcement agencies.
