Forest Guard Attacked During Official Duty in Poonch, FIR Sought Against Two

Poonch, September 6: The Forest Department has sought registration of an FIR against two persons accused of assaulting a Beat Guard during official duty in Poonch district.

According to the Forest Range Officer, Haveli, the incident took place on Sunday during the extraction of departmental firewood from Compartment No. 182/H in Banwat for cremation purposes.

The officer alleged that Abdul Majid, son of Aziza, and Mohammad Aftab, son of Fazal Hussain, both residents of Banwat, attacked Beat Guard Poonch Mohammad Shabir while he was carrying out his official duties.

The Forest Department said the guard sustained multiple injuries and his uniform was torn during the alleged assault. Other officials present at the site also attempted to explain the departmental procedure to those involved, but were allegedly manhandled and confronted.

The Forest Range Officer has requested police action against the two accused under relevant legal provisions, citing allegations of assault, manhandling, misbehaviour, threats to life and obstruction of government officials in the discharge of their duties.

Police have taken cognizance of the matter and further action is awaited.
