Srinagar, Sept 17: The fresh snowfall was recorded at Kabul Gali in north Kashmir’s Gurez Valley on Thursday while widespread rainfall lashed Kashmir with several areas in south Kashmir receiving heavy showers.

According to MeT official, Srinagar recorded 8.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, while Qazigund, Pahalgam and Gulmarg received 13.4 mm, 13 mm and 13.2 mm, respectively.
Heavy rainfall was also reported from parts of the Jammu division.
Udhampur received 117.8 mm of rainfall, followed by Jammu with 112.9 mm and Katra with 45.2 mm during the same period.
At an altitude of around 4,167 metres, Kabul Gali in Gurez received light to moderate snowfall, leaving the high-altitude pass and adjoining areas covered in a fresh layer of snow.
Kabul Gali connects Tulail Valley in Gurez with the Mushkoh Valley towards the Drass sector of Ladakh.
The occurrence of fresh snow at this altitude is generally seen as an indication of the gradual transition towards colder weather in the region.
The snowfall has further enhanced the natural landscape of Tulail Valley, known for its rugged mountains and scenic surroundings. The fresh white cover has added a winter-like character to the otherwise green high-altitude terrain.
The ongoing weather activity also brought down temperatures across the region, with chilly conditions prevailing in the higher reaches.
