Ganderbal, Mar 26: The championship is being organized by the District Ganderbal Carrom Association under the auspices of the Jammu & Kashmir Carrom Association in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
The opening ceremony was attended by Rahil Shafi (Incharge, Sports Stadium Seh Pora), Dawar Rashid (Assistant Secretary, J&K Carrom Association), Mohsin Qadri (Secretary, District Ganderbal Carrom Association), and Zuhaib War (Member, District Ganderbal Carrom Association), along with other officials of the Sports Council and the Carrom Association.
The championship witnessed participation of around 75 players competing across four categories — Cadet, Sub-Junior, Junior, and Senior — for both boys and girls, men and women of the district.
The organizers expressed satisfaction over the smooth conduct of the opening day but noted that the response in the district was comparatively lower than in other districts. They appealed to all schools, colleges, and other institutions to actively encourage greater participation in such sporting events so that youth are guided towards positive activities like Carrom and away from negative influences.
The association reiterated its commitment to promoting sports at the grassroots level and providing a platform for young talent to showcase their skills.
