
Baramulla, Feb 4: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme was organised on the occasion of World Cancer Day 2026 by the Department of Community Medicine, GMC Baramulla under the guidance of the worthy Principal, GMC Baramulla, Prof (Dr.) Majid Jehangir and the esteemed Medical Superintendent Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi.
The CME was conducted under the chairpersonship of Dr Uruj, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, with Dr Darakshan, Assistant Professor, Community Medicine, serving as the Organising Secretary.
The program commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Uruj Qureshi followed by the inaugural address by the Principal, GMC Baramulla, who applauded the department for its continued academic engagement.
The Medical Superintendent, Associated Hospital also highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of cancers as the need of the hour.
The event witnessed active participation from faculty members and students and featured expert talks by speakers from various disciplines, highlighting different aspects of cancer. Dr Sahila Nabi, Assistant Professor, Community Medicine, delivered a lecture on the epidemiology and prevention of cancers. Dr Tavseef, Assistant Professor, Radiation Oncology, spoke on cancer screening and the importance of early detection. Dr Kamran from the Department of General Surgery presented a talk on gastric cancer, while Dr Waseem from the Department of Gynaecology discussed gynaecological cancers, focusing on early diagnosis and prevention.
In addition to the academic sessions, a poster competition was organised for students of MBBS and Health and Allied Courses, encouraging student participation and awareness on cancer-related themes.
The event concluded with the felicitation of the guest speakers and winners of the poster competition, marking a successful and meaningful observance of World Cancer Day
