
Silchar, Mar 14: General Officer Commanding of the Spear Corps, Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, reviewed the operational preparedness at the Masimpur Military Station in Silchar, Assam, during a recent visit aimed at assessing the readiness and morale of troops stationed in the region.
During the visit, the GOC interacted with officers and soldiers and reviewed various aspects of operational preparedness and security measures. He appreciated all ranks for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to maintaining high standards of operational readiness in the region. He also commended the troops for strengthening the security environment while maintaining high morale.
As part of the visit, Lt Gen Pendharkar also unveiled a bust of 2/Lt Rajeev Sandhu at the Rajeev Sandhu Auditorium within the military station, paying tribute to the young officer’s indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice.
Second Lieutenant Rajeev Sandhu laid down his life on July 19, 1988, while fighting the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka. The operation was carried out by the Indian Peace Keeping Force as part of India’s mission in Sri Lanka during the late 1980s.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by officers and soldiers of the formation, who paid homage to the brave officer. Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Pendharkar highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices of soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
He said that such memorials serve as a source of inspiration for young officers and troops, reminding them of the courage, dedication and selfless commitment displayed by soldiers in the line of duty.
The visit reaffirmed the Army’s focus on operational excellence while honouring the legacy of its brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
