The Jammu and Kashmir Government has stated that drinking water and irrigation facilities in several parts of Hazratbal constituency, including Tailbal, Khimber, Chandpora, Shalimar Gasoo, Faquir Gujree and Chatterhama, are functioning satisfactorily, though temporary shortages occur due to misuse of water by locals.
In a written reply to a question by MLA Salman Sagar, the Jal Shakti Department clarified that these areas are supplied water through existing infrastructure but face disruptions during the peak season because of non-domestic usage such as vehicle washing, gardening, and construction.
The department said that a 60,000-gallon Overhead Tank (OHT) sourced by a tube well currently serves Tailbal, and a new OHT along with a dedicated bore well is nearing completion to meet future demand.
Addressing irrigation concerns, the government stated that the Mavas Canal, fed by the Dachigam Nallah, supplies water to agricultural command areas, while additional requirements are met through the Sind Extension Canal and three Lift Irrigation Stations at Batpora A, Batpora B, and Tailbal.
An allocation of Rs 100 lakh under the UT Capex Budget has been earmarked for strengthening the Sind Extension Canal to enhance both irrigation and drinking water facilities.
