
The government has directed all Government departments, institutions, local bodies and Government residential colonies to expedite the installation of prepaid smart electricity meters under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to ensure financial stability of power utilities and reliable 24×7 power supply.
In an order issued by Director Finance Budget, Finance department it was stated that timely payment of electricity dues is crucial to ensure the financial stability of power utilities for fair and 24x7 reliable power supply to the consumers and to lessen the Average cost of supply (ACS)-Aggregate Revenue Receipt (ARR) gap.
“As a major CSS, the installation of prepaid smart meters has been taken up by JKPDD/DISCOMs under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) with the aim of 24x7 disruption free power supply to the consumers and reduction of AT&C losses,” the order stated.
It stated that the process of installation of smart prepaid meters is smoothly going on in all types of consumers like domestic, industrial, commercial etc. and the Power Development Department intends to cover all government institutions under this drive.
“In this context, all Government establishments/institutions, local bodies and Government residential colonies are hereby advised to install prepaid smart meters in coordination with JPDCL/KPDCL, strictly In accordance with the guidelines/rules issued by the government,” the order reads.
All the concerned departments were advised to expedite the installation of smart prepaid meters in the buildings within their administrative control and also make adequate budgetary provision.
