MBBS, BDS interns call of strike
Srinagar, Oct 21: The government on Wednesday issued formal written orders on increase in the monthly stipend for MBBS and BDS interns, including Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), from Rs 12,300 to Rs 25,000, with effect from October 1
According to a government order issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, the enhancement has been approved following concurrence from the Finance Department.
The decision comes amid renewed agitation by medical interns across Jammu and Kashmir, who resumed their protest on Tuesday, accusing the government of failing to honour its written assurance to enhance their stipend within 30 days.
The medical interns had launched an agitation last month, demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000.
The BDS and medical interns had again gone on strike yesterday to press for written order.
After the written order by the government today, the medical interns called off their strike.
