Srinagar, April 25: The government on Saturday notified the terms and conditions of service of State Election Commissioner Shantmanu.

According to the order, the appointment has been made under Section 36A of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, read in conjunction with a prior notification dated February 17, 2026.
Shantmanu will hold office for a term of five years from the date he assumes charge or until he reaches the age of 67, whichever is earlier. The terms of appointment also provide for resignation by addressing the Lieutenant Governor, while removal will be governed by the provisions of Section 36B of the Act.
Regarding remuneration, the notification states that the State Election Commissioner will receive a salary equivalent to the last pay drawn at the time of retirement, which will be adjusted against pension benefits, along with applicable dearness allowance.
In addition, the order specifies that Shantmanu will be entitled to allowances and facilities such as travel, residential accommodation, medical benefits, leave, and telephone charges. These will be provided in line with those admissible to him during his previous tenure in service.
