Govt sacks 3 Jal Shakti workers over terror links

March 11, 2026 | Ayaan Wani

Jammu, March 10: The Government has disengaged three workers of the Jal Shakti Department over their alleged involvement in anti-national and subversive activities.

According to separate Government orders issued by the Jal Shakti Department today, the three employees — two need based casual labourers from Kishtwar district and one daily rated wager from Anantnag — have been disengaged from service with immediate effect in the interest of administration.
The disengaged workers have been identified as Liyaqat Ali Bhagwan, son of Aziz Mohammad Bhagwan, a need based casual labourer posted at Berwar in Kishtwar district; Kousar Hussain Bhagwan, son of Mohammad Akbar Bhagwan, a need based casual labourer posted at Huller under PHE Sub-Division Kishtwar; and Showkat Ahmad Zargar, son of Nazir Ahmad Zargar, a daily rated wager posted at Bijbehara in Anantnag district.
“The action was taken following references received from the Home Department indicating their alleged involvement in anti-national and subversive activities,” states the order.
In similar worded three separate orders, it was stated that Liyaqat Ali Bhagwan and Kousar Hussain Bhagwan were named in FIR Number 230/2019 registered under Sections 13, 18, 19, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) related to allegations of involvement in terrorist acts, conspiracy, harbouring terrorists and membership or support to a terrorist organization. A charge sheet has already been filed in the case and the matter is currently under trial.
Similarly, Showkat Ahmad Zargar was named in FIR Number 53/2019 under Sections 307 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act and Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA. Investigations in the case have been completed and a charge sheet has been filed, with the trial presently underway.
The Government orders state that in view of these developments and in the interest of administration, the services of the three workers have been disengaged forthwith.
