Guiding Our Youth Through the Storm of Adolescence

Our younger generations are growing up in a world where values are being replaced by vanity. Instead of providing them with the education of eagles, we are unknowingly giving them the education of vultures. Dr. Allama Iqbal envisioned our youth as eagles soaring high in pursuit of halal (lawful) sustenance, with vision, strength, and nobility

Almighty Allah has sent us into this universe with the distinguished status of Ashraful Makhluqat the noblest of all creations. This title signifies the superiority of humans over all other beings created by the Almighty. We have been brought into this world for a divine purpose, and before everything else, we must strive to be good human beings. Our foremost duty is to serve humanity with compassion and wisdom. In this vast universe, human life holds immense value so much so that we are even regarded as superior to angels. As Dr. Allama Iqbal once profoundly said, "It is better to be human than to be an angel, but it requires great struggle." Unfortunately, in the age of modernization, we seem to have forgotten this truth. We have lost sight of our real purpose. Materialism has consumed our minds and hearts everything is reduced to money, power, and selfish gain.

Our younger generations are growing up in a world where values are being replaced by vanity. Instead of providing them with the education of eagles, we are unknowingly giving them the education of vultures. Dr. Allama Iqbal envisioned our youth as eagles soaring high in pursuit of halal (lawful) sustenance, with vision, strength, and nobility. But today, we are raising vultures’ creatures that feed on decay, lost in the pursuit of shortcuts and unearned gains. If this continues, the very society we are trying to bu
ild will be consumed by the generation we have neglected. Who is responsible for this decline? We are. We, the parents, educators, and community members, are failing to nurture them in the right way.
The most crucial stage in a person's life is the transition from childhood to adulthood commonly known as adolescence. It is during this phase that identities are formed, values are questioned, and the foundation of future behaviour is laid. If handled correctly, it can shape an individual into a wise and responsible human. If ignored, it can lead to confusion, rebellion, and even destruction. This transitional age is filled with emotional storms, mood swings, inner conflicts, and a desperate search for independence. Children at this stage seek self-discovery and answers. They should not be left isolated. Instead, they need guidance, support, and direction. They must be taught to face the winds of life like a rock facing the ocean firm, unyielding, and courageous. We must encourage our youth to explore life with purpose values, beliefs, relationships, and ambitions. Relationships, especially friendships, play a vital role during this time. One must choose wisely befriend eagles, not vultures. Eagles will inspire and guide; vultures will mislead and exploit. This is also an age of risk-taking. Let them take risks, but for growth like Elon Musk, who took bold steps in pursuit of his vision. Let their risks be guided by purpose, not impulsiveness. Adolescence is the age of potential the potential to learn, to create, to transform. It is also the age of questioning about life, society, relationships, and self. We must encourage our young ones to ask, explore, and seek answers. Let them challenge norms, but respectfully and constructively. In this age of transition marked by physical, emotional, social, and psychological changes our role is to give direction. This is the age of dreams, imagination, and ambition. We must help them attach wings to their dreams and teach them to fly like eagles, not crawl like scavengers.
This age of howl and cry is a stormy, confusing, yet powerful phase of life. If we guide our youth with wisdom and care, they will emerge as eagles strong, visionary, and noble. But if we neglect them, we risk raising vultures who will devour the very values we once stood for. Let us act now. The future is in their hands and their hands are in ours. It is our collective responsibility parents, teachers, and society as a whole to nurture this crucial stage in human life. Only then can we build a future that is strong, wise, and rooted in the values that make us truly human.
