Jammu, Apr 9: Two gunfights erupted between security forces and a group of terrorists on Wednesday in the forests of Kishtwar and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Chatroo area of Kishtwar.
“The security forces established contact with the terrorists upon receipt of specific inputs about their presence in the woods of Chatroo area following which a search operation was launched,” they said.
“Few rounds were fired from both the sides while intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on,” they said.
Sources said another encounter started between terrorists and security forces in village Jopher of Ramnagar tehsil in Udhampur district.
“The gunfight broke out when a joint team of police and army had launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) on specific inputs about movement of terrorists in Jopher village,” they said.
“Two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped,” they said.
A security official said the search operation was suspended for the night and would be launched again in the early hours tomorrow.
Additional troops were rushed to the area to tighten the siege.
