
Kathua, Mar 11: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, inaugurated a newly constructed Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Kharote, bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents of Kharote and nearby panchayats. Built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.67 crore, the facility aims to reduce the need for villagers to travel long distances for primary medical care.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasized the government’s focus on strengthening healthcare and education sectors as pillars of public welfare. She highlighted recent initiatives, including installation of advanced diagnostic facilities such as MRI, CT Scan, Cath Lab services, and dialysis units across major hospitals.
Responding to public demands, Sakeena Itoo directed provision of an ambulance for PHC Kharote, feasibility of an ultrasound facility, and blacktopping of the approach road for improved accessibility. She also announced plans for additional ultrasound units at Government Medical Colleges to reduce waiting times and improve patient care.
On education, the Minister noted a 12% rise in college enrolment in Kashmir’s winter zone and improved results for Classes 10th to 12th, expressing hope for similar progress in Jammu’s summer zone. She also called for collective action against drug abuse, urging teachers and authorities to strengthen awareness, rehabilitation, and counselling programs.
MLA Kathua Dr. Bharat Bhushan thanked the Minister for her intervention in completing the PHC, which will benefit thousands of residents. The inauguration was attended by Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma, Directors of Health Services, Family Welfare, Social Welfare, senior district officers, and local residents.
