The Heemal Nagrai Cosco Cricket Tournament, organized by District Administration Shopian through YSS Shopian in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, was today inaugurated by the District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson, Bilqees Jan at Shopian.
Principal District & Sessions Judge, Mehmood Ahmed Chowdhary; Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar and other officers and officials were present at the event.
This tournament is a significant event in the district's sports calendar, promoting cricket and channelising energy of local talent to positive endeavours.
This district level tournament underscores the District Administration's commitment to encouraging sports and youth development in Shopian, in order to keep them away from negative influences.
The tournament shall see participation of teams from across the district, competing in a thrilling display of cricketing skills, and is likely to have a positive impact on the local youth.
Speaking on the occasion, PD&SJ and DC Shopian emphasized upon the youth to take part in such activities.
Drug Menace was discussed on the occasion and the participants were asked to carry forward the message of Drug Free Shopian among the vulnerable sections.
