Srinagar, Feb 4: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be arriving on a crucial three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to conduct a comprehensive security review, assess developmental projects and engage with political stakeholders.
The visit is expected to include high-level meetings with security agencies and administrative officials to evaluate the overall law and order situation and the progress of ongoing governance and infrastructure initiatives.
Sources said Shah would arrive in Jammu tomorrow evening and meet the political leaders in the evening at Lok Bhavan.
He will visit the International Border at Hiranagar in Kathua district in the morning of February 6 and take feedback from BSF officials on the prevailing situation at the border.
Later, he would hold a high-level review of the security situation at the Lok Bhawan here.
On February 7 morning, the Home Minister will leave Jammu for Srinagar where he will launch various development projects for Jammu and Kashmir.
This will be Shah’s second high-level review of the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir in less than a month.
He assessed the situation at a meeting in New Delhi on January 8. This was followed by the visit of Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and top brass of paramilitary forces to Jammu on January 14 and 15.
BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa welcomed the Home Minister’s visit, calling it an important signal of the Centre’s commitment to Jammu and Kashmir.
He said such visits provide a morale boost to security agencies and reaffirm the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and instability.
“It is always a welcome step when the Home Minister visits Jammu. It shows his concern about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. During this three-day visit, security agencies will get a morale boost. This visit reflects that both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister remain committed to the zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism,” Randhawa said.
