Honorarium hiked for vocational trainers

January 31, 2026 | BK News Service

Jammu, Jan 30: The Omar Abdullah-led government on Thursday announced an increase in the honorarium of Vocational Trainers (VTs) engaged under Samagra Shiksha and PM SHRI, marking a significant step towards strengthening vocational education in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the decision, Vocational Trainers engaged before April 1, 2022, will now receive a monthly honorarium of ₹25,000, while those engaged on or after April 1, 2022, will get ₹22,000 per month. The revised rates will be effective from April 1, 2024, and the Vocational Training Partners have been directed to disburse arrears accordingly.
Education Minister Sakeena Itoo said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to improving skill-based education and ensuring the welfare of vocational educators. She said Vocational Teachers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry-oriented practical training, thereby enhancing workforce readiness and contributing to the economic development of the Union Territory.
The Minister added that the enhanced honorarium would provide better financial support and motivation to Vocational Teachers, recognising their dedication, expertise and sustained service in imparting technical and vocational skills to students. She reiterated the government’s resolve to take proactive measures for teacher welfare and the overall advancement of the education sector.
The honorarium hike was finalised after considering long-pending demands and representations from Vocational Teachers, along with a review of prevailing economic conditions and the increasing responsibilities assigned to vocational educators.
