
Kargil, Oct 26 The Second Goma Premier League concluded with great enthusiasm at Goma Kargil, where Horker Poyen emerged as the champions after defeating Ghadeer Pishu in a competitive and exciting final match at Playground Goma Kargil. A total of 28 teams from across Kargil district participated in the tournament, reflecting the growing passion and participation of youth in sports.
The Member Parliament Ladakh, Haji Hanifa Jan, graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Councillor Town, Haji Mohammad Abass, attended as the Guest of Honour, and Abass Ali Khan was present as the Special Guest.
In the individual awards category, Gulzar Drass of STV was honored as the Man of the Series, while Sajjad Chanigound of Horker Poyen was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution in the final.
During the ceremony, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Nissar Hussain, presented a Memorandum to the dignitaries, placing key demands for the development of sports infrastructure in Goma. These included, Installation of floodlights for night matches, Extension and leveling of the western side of the ground to make it a standard playing field, Increasing the height of boundary fencing, Outfield improvement, Provision of mats for the Indoor Stadium to prevent injuries, and Construction of an international-standard multipurpose indoor stadium at Goma, considering the availability of sufficient land.
Addressing the gathering, MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan said that sports infrastructure and opportunities are steadily improving in the Union Territory of Ladakh under various government initiatives. He assured that the demands highlighted in the memorandum would be positively taken up and appreciated the collective efforts of the young organizers in promoting sports culture at the grassroots level.
Speaking on the occasion, Councillor Town Haji Mohammad Abass stated that most of the proposed works are already under progress and assured that the remaining issues, especially ground extension, will be taken up soon with the support of the MP.
The winner team was awarded cash prizes sponsored by several well-wishers and supporters of sports, including Haji Ismail, Amir Mehdi Enterprises, Haji Amin (Councillor), Haji Shabir Khachey, and Councillor Town, who also announced financial assistance for refreshments and the organizing committee.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of trophies, medals, and mementos to the winning and runner-up teams, players, and officials.
