Kohima, Nov 13: In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, the HQ DGAR (Directorate General Assam Rifles) Veteran Cell Team visited the residences of two widows in Kohima on November 12, 2025, as part of its ongoing Outreach Drive Campaign. The visit aimed at reaching out to the families of late Assam Rifles personnel, providing emotional support and ensuring their welfare.

The team first called on Mrs. Jasuda Newar, the 91-year-old widow of Havildar (Late) Purna Bdr Pradhan, a former soldier of the 3 Assam Rifles (AR), who has been bedridden and paralyzed for the past five years. Despite her physical challenges, Mrs. Newar expressed deep appreciation for the Army’s continued concern for her well-being.
The team also visited Mrs. Dil Maya Chhetri, the 95-year-old widow of L/Nk (Late) Jang Bahadur Chhetri, also from 3 AR, who has been suffering from paralysis and is unable to speak for the last two years. The team members interacted with Mrs. Chhetri and her family, offering comfort and reassurance during their difficult time.
During the visit, the DGAR outreach team extended its full support to the widows and their families, assuring them of all possible assistance for their health and welfare. The team’s efforts were part of the larger initiative by the Assam Rifles to strengthen its commitment to the welfare of veterans and their families, especially those who are in need of additional care due to old age and health challenges.
The families of both veterans expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Director General of Assam Rifles and the outreach team for their compassionate approach and unwavering dedication to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. The team’s visit not only offered emotional solace but also reinforced the strong bond between the Armed Forces and the families of those who have served.
The HQ DGAR Veteran Cell’s outreach campaign continues to make meaningful connections with veterans’ families, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve, highlighting the Assam Rifles’ long-standing tradition of looking after its personnel even after their service.
