ICDS Srinagar holds awareness drive on Poshan Maah and nutrition

In connection with the ongoing 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah celebrations, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) district Srinagar organized an awareness programme under ‘Sewa Parv’ at Miskeen Bagh here today. Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare department, Sarmad Hafeez was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mission Director ICDS Dr Musheer Ahmad, District Programme Officer ICDS, Srinagar, Bureeda Majeed, CDPOs, and other officers of SWD were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner Secretary urged AWWs to materialise all the schemes on ground level and urged beneficiaries particularly mothers to take advantage of Government schemes. He emphasized the importance of utilizing various government schemes aimed at improving public health and nutrition. “The objective of such programmes is to create awareness about government initiatives and ensure they reach the grassroots level,” he said. Mission Director ICDS in his address, reiterated the department’s commitment to reaching every village with vital information about ICDS schemes and initiatives. He underlined the importance of community participation in achieving the goals of Poshan Abhiyaan, a flagship mission to improve nutritional outcomes across the country. Talking about the achievements of ICDS in schemes like PMMVY and Ladli Beti, he urged to remove all the pendency if any so that beneficiaries can avail services and benefits at the earliest. Other speakers at the event highlighted the long-term benefits of a balanced diet and the need to instil healthy eating habits from a young age. They stressed the role of nutrition in physical and cognitive development, especially among school-going children and also importance of moral education in inculcating good habits to benefit the society at large. The event was held with an aim to sensitize the local community about the various themes of Poshan Maah including Men-streaming, obesity, breastfeeding and the harmful effects of junk food as well as to promote healthy and nutritious eating habits, especially among adolescents. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from beneficiaries and supervisors of the District Srinagar, Anganwadi workers, helpers, and local residents, marking it as a successful step towards promoting Poshan Mah as an initiative towards better eating habits and providing Poshan to all.
