Srinagar, July 30: The India Heritage Centre (IHC)-Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) Study Circle organised an engaging academic session on "Kashmir Shaivism as Bharat's Cosmic Worldview," bringing together scholars, researchers and students to deliberate on one of India's most profound philosophical traditions.

The programme explored the rich intellectual and spiritual heritage of Kashmir Shaivism, highlighting its enduring relevance in understanding consciousness, human existence and the interconnected nature of the universe. Speakers described the philosophy as a holistic worldview that transcends ritualistic practice and offers a comprehensive framework for harmonising the individual with the cosmos.
During the session, scholars emphasised that Kashmir Shaivism occupies a distinguished place in India's philosophical landscape due to its emphasis on universal consciousness, self-realisation and the inherent divinity present in all forms of existence. They noted that the tradition continues to inspire contemporary discussions on spirituality, ethics and human well-being while contributing significantly to India's civilisational heritage.
The speakers also underlined the importance of preserving and promoting the intellectual legacy of Kashmir, describing the Valley as a historic centre of philosophical inquiry and scholarly excellence. They stressed that the teachings of great Shaivite philosophers remain relevant in addressing many of the social, cultural and existential challenges of the modern world.
Participants discussed how the philosophy encourages harmony between humanity and nature, promotes inclusivity and offers a balanced approach to life rooted in wisdom, compassion and self-awareness. They observed that such indigenous knowledge systems deserve greater academic attention and should be integrated into contemporary intellectual discourse.
The session witnessed active participation from academicians, research scholars and students, who exchanged views on the historical evolution of Kashmir Shaivism, its literary traditions and its influence on Indian philosophy.
The organisers said the programme was aimed at encouraging deeper engagement with India's classical knowledge traditions and creating greater awareness about Kashmir's invaluable contribution to the country's philosophical and cultural heritage.
