India, Pak troops exchange gunfire along Keran sector

January 22, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, Jan 21: Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged brief gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources said said firing took place when the Army was installing surveillance cameras along the LoC in the Keran sector.
“Pakistani troops fired two small-arms rounds in an attempt to disrupt the installation, drawing a single retaliatory shot from the Indian side,” officials said.
“There was no report of any casualties and the situation is calm in the sector,” they said.
Army has not officially said anything on the ceasefire violation.
There has been no major ceasefire violation along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir after the Operation Sindoor last year.
Last week Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said 139 ceasefire violations were recorded in 2025, of which 124 occurred during Operation Sindoor.
Indian Army and other security agencies have stepped up surveillance along LoC and International Border (IB) following inputs indicating heightened activity at terrorist launch pads across the border. The inputs suggest that there may be a possible push for infiltration along the IB in the Jammu region as well as multiple sectors along the LoC in Kashmir.
