The INSPIRE Awards - MANAK scheme is a golden opportunity for young, creative minds to unlock their potential and step into the world of scientific innovation. Designed to foster critical thinking and problem-solving, this initiative transforms school students into budding scientists tackling real-world challenges.
Science: Where Imagination Meets Discovery
Science has transformed our lives in unimaginable ways. As the saying goes, “Science begins where our thinking stops.” It dares to dream, to question, and to transform ideas into reality. Flying across continents, speaking to someone across the globe instantly, or curing once-fatal diseases—these are all outcomes of scientific thought.
Science isn’t just theory. It’s practical, demonstrable, and rooted in evidence. It showcases how ideas can become inventions, and how those inventions can improve lives.
From the mystery of raindrops to the twinkle of stars, science offers answers where once there were only questions. The journey of discovery is infinite—whether exploring the earth’s layers, ocean depths, or distant galaxies.
Everyone is a Scientist
A scientist isn’t only the person working in a lab. Anyone who thinks critically and solves problems creatively embodies the spirit of science. From repairing a motor to creating a new app, from improving a village water supply to developing a learning aid—these are all acts of science.
Today, we are surrounded by machines and innovations: smartphones, washing machines, laptops, rice cookers—all born from human imagination and scientific inquiry.
About the INSPIRE Awards – MANAK
The INSPIRE Awards – MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge) is a flagship program of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. It aims to cultivate a culture of innovation among students from Class 6 to 10 across India.
Before any nation can aspire to development, it must first strengthen its scientific base. India has a rich legacy of pioneers who shaped the course of global science:
C.V. Raman – Raman Effect
Homi J. Bhabha – Nuclear Physics
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – Missile and Space Technology
Vikram Sarabhai – Indian Space Program
J.C. Bose – Crescograph
Srinivasa Ramanujan – Mathematics
S.N. Bose – Quantum Mechanics
Salim Ali – Ornithology
S.S. Abhyankar – Algebraic Geometry
Raj Reddy – AI and Technology
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Any middle or secondary school in India can nominate up to five student ideas. The ideas should be:
Original and innovative
Socially and environmentally relevant
Economically viable
Technologically feasible
Aligned with government missions or schemes
How to Apply
Conduct an Idea Competition
Select promising ideas from Classes 6–10 based on creativity, relevance, and potential.
Prepare Documentation
Student bank details
Idea synopsis: Objective, materials, working model, innovation, and potential benefits
Online Submission
Search “INSPIRE Awards” on Google
Click the official portal
Log in as “School” (unregistered schools should contact their DIET or district nodal officer)
Keep login credentials and contact info safe
Assign a Technical Mentor
Designate a capable science or computer teacher to assist with submissions and follow-ups.
What Happens After Selection?
Selected students receive a ₹10,000 grant to develop a prototype. If their model shows promise, they may qualify for district, state, or even national-level exhibitions. This recognition can set the foundation for a future in research, technology, or entrepreneurship.
The Beauty of INSPIRE Awards - MANAK
This isn’t just a program—it’s a movement. A movement toward a scientifically awakened India, nurturing future innovators right from the grassroots. It encourages students to dream, explore, and transform ideas into real-world solutions.
Let’s build a nation of thinkers, doers, and innovators. Let young minds lead us into a brighter, smarter future.
