Kashmir is in the grip of an intense cold wave with the night temperature staying may degree below the freezing point
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, the coldest night of this winter season so far, a MeT official said.
Shopian in south Kashmir was the coldest in the Valley at minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Pulwama, where the minimum temperature stayed five degrees below the freezing point.
The Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius.
The Zojila Pass connecting the Valley with Ladakh recorded a low of minus 16 degrees Celsius.
Kashmir has been going through a prolonged dry spell since October, and the Met office has forecast dry weather to continue over the next week.
According to a MeT spokesperson, the weather is likely to remain generally dry across J&K for at least the next fifteen days, until December 10.
He said on December 2, cloudy weather is expected, with the possibility of brief light snowfall over isolated higher reaches.
The MeT spokesman said from December 03 to 10, the weather will remain dry.
However, he stated that temperatures will continue to drop. Both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to fall by 1–2°C over the next seven days.
