
Kashmir plains were lashed by intermittent rains, while some higher reaches, including the tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Pahalgam received yet another light spell of snowfall overnight, officials said.
Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley received intermittent rainfall during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Some parts of Jammu also received light rainfall overnight.
The ski resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district received 5.1centimetres of snowfall, while Pahalgam and Kupwara received 2.8 and 2.5 centimetres of snowfall respectively, the state meteorological department in Srinagar said.
Some higher catchment areas of the Kashmir Valley, including the Pir Panjal Range of mountains in south Kashmir also received light snowfall.
The MeT predicted the weather will generally remain cloudy with a possibility of isolated light rain, snow and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
“There are chances of light snowfall and rain from the evening of February 3 over the isolated places, while on February 4, the weather will generally remain cloudy with possibility of light to moderate rain or snow at many places over Jammu and Kashmir.
Another spell of light rain or snow is also expected early in the morning and also before noon on February 5.
Barring Gulmarg the night temperatures were recorded above normal at most of the weather stations following the snowfall.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar recorded during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday improved and settled at 2.5°C, as against the 0.8°C the previous night. It was 3.1°C above the average for the place during this period.
Gulmarg temperatures dipped by a few notches and recorded at a low of -7.6°C against the -7.4°C and it was 0.2°C below the average for the valley of meadows during this time.
Pahalgam also witnessed a fall in temperatures after snowfall. It was recorded at -2.6°C on Sunday, as against -0.4°C. Temperatures at Kokernag were sub-zero, as against -0.8°C the previous night, the MeT office said
